14 mar morning we went to the city centre. oh i forgot to mention abt gg to the market the day before and i bought some finnish food, pies with porridge-like filing which is super salty and the other with potato filing. we went to the nice tampere cathedral. then we headed towards the moomin musuem haha jenny is really crazy abt it. we din haf the time to enter the musuem though cos the shop alone has alot to see. i dun mind not entering the museum la cos i'm the one who needs to rush for the train wat, they dun haf to rush thru buying souvenirs and visiting the museum, so we took our time to laze ard in the shop, with jenny happily buying stuff haha. i only bought a stamp lor. then they accompanied me to the train station for the train to helsinki. amy, jenny, juan and eliz really thanks alot for taking time off to take me ard hervanta and tampere city centre! see ya all in rovaniemi.
on the train nothing to do, shall heed amy's advice to read up on helsinki from the book she lent me. cos the guys in helsinki wont take me ard one..so i better get some research done.haha...
reached helsinki train station...mervyn wasnt late! so amazing..haha then we took bus to his place in ermm i forgot the suburb name. the one they keep saying they are from and not helsinki whenever the gals say how lousy helsinki is, compared to tampere. faintz...and this fight never ends one lor..it continued thruout the trip..damn farnie la..
unfair! the room so big with its own toilet..win le..really like hotel lo. and ya finally met xz.haha never see in nus be4 leh. aiya but most of the time i dun look ard one wat so as usual. i want to slack one leh!!but was forced to attend merv's lesson. arghhh. and he keep saying very fun one la but after the lesson he say the fun teacher not there, else it'd been better. ok but anyhow it's an experience la. the class not the usual class, like some facilitation training seminar. well but it shows how impt gestures are during face to face conversation lo..then after play the scrupples game...ermm....weird game...i sounded so sincere then they dun believe me. anyway got one guy always kenna one..it's like it's impossible for him to do nice things.haha
ok after that we went to the grocery shop..now i feel fortunate that i sep in uk. all in finnish lor..how to buy food. didnt cook at home leh..how to differentiate just by looking at it? then we went back and cook dinner, good leh got rice cooker...i always got claypot rice lor in ncl. okie nice meal haha..but got some procedures and recipe mixed up for the chicken fillet la..damn farnie lor.. tbsp of eggs = eggs...as in i think the egg is meant for allowing corn flour to stick to it then will become breaded chicken...but there's no corn flour. so we make sambal chicken instead. but use paste one la..very idiot proof de.
after dinner really dun feel like gg out lor..in the cold somemore..but sighh haf to print the notes and maps..arghhh really dragged myself out of the cosy house lor..ok la but i also hai merv cos he has to bring me there..so sorrie...yea took a long time in the comp lab.till past midnight i think. but that's where i first time saw the venting machine with 60 eur cts coffee lor...cheapest i've ever seen outside sg so far le. finally after printing, ya really exploiting the ink and paper there lor, we went tour the sch haha at night omg. but think it's a total different view ba..most buildings are illuminated with dim lights. some really look nice..in the dark. interesting picture in the tunnel and another amazing frozen lake which looks more dangerous than the one in tampere. here the jetty makes me feel that the ice will give way any time under our feets.

tampere
attended 1.5 hr finnish lesson with amy and eliz, got to know jenny and juan. the teacher is really very friendly. just the kind who will teach a language class. she was teaching the letters and positive and negative sentences. then haf to go around asking classmates qns and answering. same as jap class lor.
after class, juan and amy brought me to the water towel and the frozen lake where i tried the snow angel. so interesting.. an angel is just a human flapping the arms and opening and closing the legs. then we walked back to the sch canteen to eat. u can take watever amt, but restricted to the types of food u take. 2 euros. not too bad la..the rice taste weird. the chicken was stuffed with some green paste.
amy went for class after that, and i followed juan and jenny back to jenny's place. saw some pics on jenny's laptop..very nice of juan to narate all the interesting incidents to me.,..haha.. then jenny brought me to the city centre, away from hervanta, the suburb where their sch is. we went in cathedrals, shopping centres, one of which we bought the ice hockey tix, and walked along the river. the town wasnt too big. we rushed back for dinner, macaroni and broccoli.
we rushed out again to catch the bus to the stadium. tappara vs hlfk. exciting match. the fans complete the whole atmosphere with cheers. the players are so cool. it's really team spirit and tactic la. each team has a star player, with a golden helmet. so stress rite...the audience will have higher expectations of the star players lor. anyway both were not too bad. a pity that tappara's goalkeeper isnt strong. it's a draw, 6-6 but the opposing team won at the final showdown. sad case..haha amy super sad also..

alone in london...looking forward to meeting amy in tampere
cant really slp on the night bus. yes another sg to genting trip. except that there's snow everywhere this time round. travelling south from newcastle to london. no street lights at first but there are on other roads.
just when i think i finally got some slp..the bus driver announced the arrival of a stop for us to go toilet. 3am. i din get down, tried to slp more but the person behind me keep hitting the chair..super irritated.
the bus amazingly reached at 0510 instead of the preplanned 0630. still dark...not sure abt london security so just stayed in the cold bus station till 0630 when it started to get brighter. carried my heavy bag and walked around. spent a long time encircling the residential area with all the hotels and hostels. really like a maze without a map. then finally got to the vauxhall bridge and saw the river thames. crossed it and walked along the river. passed by the lambeth bridge, big ben, st thomas hospital where i used the free toilet after one and a half hr walk since the bus station, the westminister bridge then crossed back the hungerford bridge, hoping to find the trafalgar square on the other side of the river. but well cant find it. but i walked along whitehall and really wanted to take the beautiful pics of the garden and the building but arghhh cam batt flat.
next thing i know i was in the westminister area. very nice statues along the streets and very unique architecture but cant take any pics. imagine how pek cek it is! shoulder andback cmi liao..walked back to the coach station to sit down. cold. after stoning and dozing off for one hr, was abt to get up and walk around the shopping centre nearby when my hp rang. thought it was edelene as she might call to ask abt laptop or stuff. unknown caller. haha..i asked who also but after cai's incident, i'd guess it to be merv. really sound very different. anyway i was shivering like mad, cant really speak properly and the lag was causing the irritating echo too.
walked around the shopping centre, very small, not many shops. it linked to the railway station and metro station but no seats are available there. well i went back t0 the berth which i'm suppose to be and slept there till 1pm. my bus is suppose to be 1315 but the person allowed me to get up the 1300 bus. lucky i took the early one, afternoon traffic was heavy, reached the stansted airport at almost 1500. i got a shock when the status of my flight on the departure board says closed! no row number for checking in! really impossible lor..i combed the whole departure hall and found the ryan air check in rows. and thankfully saw my flight no and a long queue. lousy board lor..scare me. another person opened another counter, speeding up the check in process. the lady just asked me lor.. and she din even see my e-tix. my luggage weighed 10.2kg. size and weight got thru, so i can hand carry it.
finally got the chance to get up the plane without an aerobridge. i could see the plane at such close distance. first time taking budget airline 2 rows of 3s with a centre aisle. hard chair. cant lie back and the poor air stewardess have to demo the evacuation process. nonetheless i slept thru'out though kept being disturbed by the person beside me at the window seat.. he go like 4 times toilet break within 3 hours lor. 2100 touched down. maybe becos the plane is smaller, the landing feels smoother than sia one. at first i thought all done manually like shown in the jap drama gd luck. but ming told me taking off and landing all on auto pilot leh.
at the customs, the person checked the list to see if sg need visa in. i approached the info counter to ask for map and where to take the bus to tampere railway station. first to got on the bus so waited for 20 min be4 it drives off but i was admiring the snow la. abt 1 hr bus ride to the station. 2250. met up with amy then she brought me to her apartment which is abt half an hour ride away. cold..super duper cold lor.everywhere is snow.
reached and met up with eliz too. wahhh their rooms so big...i bathed while they make spaghetti for me...so niceee.thanks alot. slept at 2 plus.

wkend before finland trip
stayed over edel's place on sat's night. sat afternoon ate pizza buffet with ryan, e feng and edel. oh man! really not worth. i 'm not going to eat pizza buffet again. 7.50P for 6 types of pizza, 2 types of pasta(cream and tomato sauce base) and salad. the drink is refillable though. but i eat 9 pieces and drank 2 cups of blackcurrent squash, already feel like puking. but still not worth. tsk tsk...castle leazes alot of scandals sia..all the gossips..haha..even the guys are gossiping lor.
edel and i walk ard abit before we headed to her comp cluster to do research for the trip. yea but i only started at 9 which is 3hours after we got there. ming was online so was busy trying to ask him as many qn as possible. yup got it all solved! except to run some tests and i've explain to explain the results..haha then the rest of the time chatting lor! ya lor was telling ming about the acjc case which a dead cat's head is found near the goalpost, its body all chopped up and the internals all strewn over. heard it from my bro of cos. he also said that 3 jc kids committed suicide in a wk lor..omg...one of them is his fren. sigh..and he's very zai one lor. pity.
k finally get down to finding some places to visit in edin and switz, it's really ex to go up the alps...sigh..cant decide whether to go or not. really couldnt tahan le...too tired...stayed over at edel's that night. went back the next morning which i surprisingly woke up at 10! and that's only when edel's alarm went off. the night be4 ming still call me koon queen and i wondered why..hmm.
back to my room..started packing. chatting online and with rehana..rehana soo nice lor...keep offering me food. she said it'll be tired for me to cook be4 i leave, so when i want to eat must tell her, so she can go cook for me! of cos i cant do that la. then she always look angry when i reject...i really dunno wat to do leh..but really not nice to eat up her share la..cos cooking super sianz one lor..then she'll cook once so that the next few days just use microwave heat up can le. anyway i reassured her that i'll eat la..haha..so motherly.
yay! jiafang and edel coming over to play with me then sending me off at the coach station...sooo nicee of them! ok we played this game called gong zhu? actually i din ask wat are the chinese characters so i also not sure. can see the ying1 xian3 part of human lor....jf too pro le la..always hai us one. then when edel compromise with him...ya that's it..i lost twice lor and with super negative points. then still haf to forfeit, use nose to find out the queen spade. and thanks edel for videoing it..i hope she dun spread lor. yea, snowing that night. but they still walk me to the station. really very gan dong and sorry to trouble them.

thurs and fri, 4 days be4 finland
nice buffet! or maybe i'm really too sick of my cooking. argh..a big thank you to ming lor..so nice..treat us buffet. quite nice la the place. western and chinese food, salad desserts and ice cream..wah i want to go there again lor. 4.99P exclude drink and student 10% off...so much cheaper than sg's buffet. had a nice chat over lunch with ming and edelene. we related own experiences and debated over education systems. so interesting. so relaxing to just spend the afternoon away like this.
yup still cracking my brain over the simulink block diagrams. how to design a control system? but it's really interesting. think i prefer doing this than the usual nus theoretical stuff. sigh.
haha rehana just told me for her microbiology practical, the whole class couldnt get any results! but the monday group got theirs. and thus the conclusion of it is that the bacteria might have developed resistance! amazing. within 3 days? and why did it develop resistance just then and only in their class not the previous one. haha the teacher even say that that particular lab is weird cos on tue, students actually did the most stupid thing such as putting the agar on the lid instead of the petri dish. and he said that nobody in previous years had done that. actually i dun think it's very weird leh. as in both the dish and the lid look about the same wat..well i'm just glad that i din take that. luckily i chose the other 2. they only haf 3 modules lor!
then she super anti me go travel one..haha ..she simply thinks that it's ridiculous to travel so much. and she just told me about this flamingoland in UK. then immediately she covered her mouth and said nothing nothing. but i heard obviously.haha then she said she should haf zipped up her mouth and stop telling me the places in the area. how can rite???omg! haha...aiya but edel's gg to dublin with her fren in the last wk of easter hol. think i'm gg to give that a miss. 42P return. i save $$ also. but the main thing is that i've to do abit of work. besides i told ming my schedule liao..cant keep running away everywhere. kk shall do my matlab work.

trip to tynemouth is fantastic with snow
yes! it snowed on fri night! so the ground is covered with snow on sat, the day when we went tynemouth, wat a great choice! the lake in the leazes park was frozen! i threw a stone in and it bounced. haha not tat it can skip on water but becos there's ice on the water surface. i tried stepping on it..cracks start to appear! oops.haha..ok i better not destroy it. we went to form lettering in the tennis court..so fun
we rushed to take the metro to tynemouth. no coins! argh make me spend 1P on 3 kitkat chunkies. so many security at the gates. crazy la! ok so cant escape. sianz. snow on the ground is getting thicker as we approach tynemouth station.
we walked towards the north sea! haha played with snow along the way..well done edel and jiafang keep throwing snowballs at me. then obviously i throw back la..haha but my palms frozen lor...how i wish i've waterproof gloves. my feet too! again! omg i better remind myself to bring thick socks. yea then we take turns to do tobogganing with our shoes..haha..2 of us just pull the other one down the slope....whew..so fun!haha
went down to the beach. super fine sand. the waves sound so melodious. dogs were running around, swimming in the cold sea; pple playing with those huge parachutes. then we crossed those huge rocks, with algae which are super slippery, with seaweed and countless barnacles. my shoes werent suitable for this at all.. i couldnt even balance on the rocks. so difficult to walk. i fell, got my shoes into the water and a slight cut on my knuckles. why did i land on knuckles? sigh. but it's really an experience lor...super tiring to cross those rocks. later i gain more confidence. jumping here and there, planning ahead to get to bigger and flatter stones.finally! we reached an area with many flat and big stones. the sedimentary rocks are really a beauty lor! so neatly stacked. and there are many seashells! as i was picking them, got pple throw snowballs down the slopes lor..dunno purposely or not, but when i look up, no more balls roll down liao. lucky never hit me.
we reached another small beach near the castle. had lunch there then we climbed the stairs to the castle, din pay to go in. we walked round the side towards the lighthouse but the gate is locked so no access to it. we then walked to the human statue with 4 cannons. nice scenery. took some pics then we headed northshields where we had delicious fish and chips. it's really a super big plate. 4.20P. much better than fish and co and obviously the 12plus pounds tea at betty's in york.haha. super full lor. then we proceeded to find the nike factory outlet. there're many other shops there too.. my nike free costs only 40P there! but only light blue la...i still prefer my colour. but my shoe tore abit sobsob...i feel like cutting away the entire pc lor..but well just leave it 1st. saw a very nice puma windbreaker 30P. buy 1 get 1 free for ladies. so it'll be 15P which is still 45 bucks. hmm no..shant buy. i'd buy it if it's nike.
night fell. we asked a woman with 2 kids at the bus stop for directions to the metro station. she said that we've to walk down the street which is the most ruthless part of the area. there was a riot a few years back there. so she kept warning us that if we want to walk, we've to stick together. well it got us abit worried, thinking if we should take bus. but ok nvm..we just walk..haha and i walk super fast till the 2 complained. but i wanted to get off the street asap wat. we found it, nothing happened. we dropped off at jiafang;s stop which is not near his place at all, we walked for a long time be4 reaching. then we stayed over. watched the 2 sisters, which i've seen be4 but well i forgot most of it. as usual. haha
next morning went sainbury's. the stuff so cheap! compared to those in city centre. we went back jf's place for lunch, then we walked back to my place where we made spaghetti..haha we took so long.,.think the pple in the living room must be wondering why cos pasta should be cooked very fast. then we went over to edel's place, drank there be4 gg to the comp cluster. omg so paiseh lor.,..i knocked the drink over into the drawer! really sorry edel.wanted to go casino that night but well..jf dun want to go. it's cold too. so i decide to return to my room while jf stayed over edel's. had 2nd thoughts when i reached the cow field. wondering if pple will come bash me up. cos there were afew incidents reported in that area liao. i slowed down my steps. thinking if i should turn back. while deciding i've reached the main road. so well half the journey gone, might as well. yup i reach safe and sound.

we reached another small beach near the castle. had lunch there then we climbed the stairs to the castle, din pay to go in. we walked round the side towards the lighthouse but the gate is locked so no access to it. we then walked to the human statue with 4 cannons. nice scenery. took some pics then we headed northshields where we had delicious fish and chips. it's really a super big plate. 4.20P. much better than fish and co and obviously the 12plus pounds tea at betty's in york.haha. super full lor. then we proceeded to find the nike factory outlet. there're many other shops there too.. my nike free costs only 40P there! but only light blue la...i still prefer my colour. but my shoe tore abit sobsob...i feel like cutting away the entire pc lor..but well just leave it 1st. saw a very nice puma windbreaker 30P. buy 1 get 1 free for ladies. so it'll be 15P which is still 45 bucks. hmm no..shant buy. i'd buy it if it's nike.
night fell. we asked a woman with 2 kids at the bus stop for directions to the metro station. she said that we've to walk down the street which is the most ruthless part of the area. there was a riot a few years back there. so she kept warning us that if we want to walk, we've to stick together. well it got us abit worried, thinking if we should take bus. but ok nvm..we just walk..haha and i walk super fast till the 2 complained. but i wanted to get off the street asap wat. we found it, nothing happened. we dropped off at jiafang;s stop which is not near his place at all, we walked for a long time be4 reaching. then we stayed over. watched the 2 sisters, which i've seen be4 but well i forgot most of it. as usual. haha
next morning went sainbury's. the stuff so cheap! compared to those in city centre. we went back jf's place for lunch, then we walked back to my place where we made spaghetti..haha we took so long.,.think the pple in the living room must be wondering why cos pasta should be cooked very fast. then we went over to edel's place, drank there be4 gg to the comp cluster. omg so paiseh lor.,..i knocked the drink over into the drawer! really sorry edel.wanted to go casino that night but well..jf dun want to go. it's cold too. so i decide to return to my room while jf stayed over edel's. had 2nd thoughts when i reached the cow field. wondering if pple will come bash me up. cos there were afew incidents reported in that area liao. i slowed down my steps. thinking if i should turn back. while deciding i've reached the main road. so well half the journey gone, might as well. yup i reach safe and sound.
recap3: last wk with all the tests
sigh..boring wk..2 pharmacology tests and 1 physiology test. madness lor..and worse thing is i cant get anything into my head. the heavier weightage one, in course EMI, the lecturer super funny. he showed us the bar chart of how the cohord score, mostly in the 70-80 range, the bar is also quite high for the 60 and 90 range. he said: those in this range(20-40), u could try out more questions especially those in the seminars. those here(50-60), well not too bad but obviously u can do better. here(70-80) yup very good and those in this range(90-100), get a life! hahahhaha..the whole lecture grp burst into laughter lor..amazing! haha the lecturer luffed too, then he said well of cos VERY good. so cute rite?
while studying for the test, i've finished reading all the PID notes, recap on laplace transforms and those on feedback. planning for finland trip too. yay! then we'll all go london together from tampere then newcastle and edinburgh. long trip. haha..all the accom and transport is driving us crazy lor..trying to get the best deals best location and suitable timings isnt ez at all!

recap2: trip to york
we went york last last wkend. beautiful place! we joined the free voluntary tour. the tour guide brought us around, not many places but he really explained alot in details. all the history. i din catch all though, sometimes i just drifted off, sometimes i just couldnt hear. if i've the time, really wish to check out more abt york.
my fingers and toes were really frozen. why is york so cold? i've never experienced such chill be4. it was drizzling, the first time i felt that my feet were gone. first time i realise that my socks and shoes werent enuff. i need boots. becos there's a service, we could get in the york minister for free. it's really a grand church. as explained to us, it's so big that building a brick roof is impossible, so they've to use wood and risk it being destroyed in times of fire. they spent huge sum of $$ every year to maintain it. we paid to go to the undercroft though, like a museum, lots of antiques. the york minister was built on the land used by many and for many purposes. all the remains of the roman fortress, Viking, Norman and medieval carvings. simply splendid.
a very traditional town. i love the shambles. so cool! the streets look very different from other cities. the houses were all wooden ones until the time when a fire disaster took place. there are still evidences of burnt wood! they actually hired pple from...erm..i forgot which country belgium?france?denmark? argh i really forgot but it's around that area in europe, to show them how to build houses made of bricks.
and there was a long period of time when there's no water, pple just drink beer.
lunch, we went to betty's tea house. we had heard that it's worth a try when we go york, so well..we went. the ambience is really nice. it's a big place, 2 levels and yet there's still a long queue outside. it's really a nice place to have tea. if only i'm a tai tai. then can always go such places.haha. yup it's really too ex. jf, ht and edel each ordered the set, 12.50P each. well it really looked appealing. but it only has 1st level: 4 slices of bread with filing of cos, cheese and salmon i think; 2nd level: 1 bread with butter and jam; 3rd level: 2 kinds of desserts, some cakes and pastries and a pot of tea. of cos i dun want to spend it so i bought the fat rascal! haha cute name rite? but it's just a big cookie, costs me 3.25P that's 10 sing! but well at least it's filing and nice. and it's one of the zhao pai there.
at night the town really looked ghostly haha..those old buildings, orange lightings, shadows etc. yup so of cos there are many ghost tours, but we dun haf the time to join. shops closed at 5 thus we walked slowly to the train station and rot there till our 7.45 train back to newcastle.

recap1:eggs and potatoes
haha yes i keep lagging, once u lag, ull lag forever, so msn conferencing is all gossip now, so i better start some blogging.
for the past 2 wks, i learn more cooking methods. haha firstly how to test if eggs are bad. omg i threw away 5 eggs lor. and eggs here cost 20cents each. that's 1 SGD. ok according to rehana, shaking the egg if it produces a sound then it's bad, or if u put it in water and it floats, it's also bad. i tried and ya both methods show that they are bad. i even check online lor..then i crack open all 5 eggs. actually they smell and look fine, just that the yolk is abit too orangy. then rehana called her mother to ask ..conclusion: the eggs are bad, throw them away.sigh.
i cant believe myself. i cut the potatoes into smaller pieces and then soaked in brine for one day, the next day some turned grey! yucks.i threw away half of them lor. then i stir fry them but they just refuse to soften. so in the end i just keep adding water so they'll be boiled. then i added oyster sauce to taste. ok at least i go some gravy for my rice. but arghhh potato and rice just doesnt go and my rice is so dry and bland. omg..i'll never do that again! yes and i know now to soften the potatoes, u boil them not leave them in brine. omg!
