yes i was all alone, walking back from the gate to richardson road. it took abt half and hour's walk. i purposely took the longer route back, just to make sure i'm always on the main road. there were many pple outside the building at the building's closing time. so it wasnt that scary as long as the pple dont bother me.
i went to asper's casino at the gate with edelene and her hall fren. didnt want to go cos it was or still is cold and i was really tired. was almost dozing off in front of my laptop. but well i've promised edelene then i shall go with her. upon reaching, i was denied entry as i din bring along a passport or a driving license. well the person insisted, despite edel's fren asking her for an exception. she actually said ISIC can be forged?she just need something to prove my age. well i know i dun look at 21. anyway i think casinos here 18 can enter le. so why must insist either a passport/driving license. crazy lor...i wouldnt want to bring my passport ard.
but actually i wasnt very angry. it could just be a hint that i shouldnt go in. perhaps i'll lose $$ if i went in. before i wasnt very happy already. i was cooking curry. then i went into my room, but well it overflowed out of the pot so sarah came in to call me. then when i went out, the rest luff leh! very farnie meh? it's just that curry overflow out of pot. anyway maybe they dun think it's rude to mock at pple. cos though it's the first time that happened to me here, i;ve seen many cases in city centre and school when one grp of pple just mock at a victim. so mean lor...
anyway i brisk walked back..really cold, was trying to use my hood to keep my head warm but the wind keep blowing it off. weird that my hood cant stay. my fingers no need to say, frozen. i turned into the sch, so generally no cars and pple. i ran, in the middle of the road, to keep warm and in case anybody tries to attack me. haha i;ve flashes in my mind to prepare wat could happen to me. i was thinking....wat if one grp of pple surrounds me and snatch my money although i only haf 10 plus pounds with me and i purposely never bring my debit cards out. wat if a car drove past and someone grabs me from inside. wat if someone jumps out from the bush. anyway i ran but no strength liao...argh i'm weak liao. a car came past...haha nothing happened. i jogged to the side of the road. reached merz court. got ming! haha as if he's still in office. anyway i felt safer. then got 2 ladies walk out from merz. they talk very loud. good haha. i can walk with them. but then i walk very fast one..want shelter and warmth. but i still can hear them all the way leh...very surprised that they can walk as fast as me. or maybe they are really loud.
so finally i'm back. so warm and nice. k i go slp le..tmr 10am lesson. it's alr 3am. ok to me it's really late.haha

you always give others a feeling of optimism, enthusiasm and facing challenges head-on. you also give an impression of being gentle, thoughtful and great at managing inter-personal relationship. others feel that a person like you are strong, yet vulnerable. your caring nature and abililty to accept and forgive, makes you more charming and trustworthy. you always let others think that you are someone who doesnt say "no", and it's easy to be used by pple who are dependent and self-centred. these pple get close to you becos of your attentiveness and easygg nature, in order to make use of you.
how true is this? hehe. at least i dun think i'm attentive la.

disastrous self made dinner
oops suddenly remembered one more. yah just a few hours ago. i tried to cook fried rice since i've got oyster sauce. with lettuce and egg and onions. erm firstly i forgot to turn down the heat, and i dun haf oil so i put butter. and it got burnt..haha rehana was like throwing the pot into the sink with water..haha.so farnie..
very sad lor..the bottom of my pot like turn brownish and cant be washed off! arghh..so next i borrowed some oil from her. my fried rice turned out weird..it's not as dried as wat i expected. it looked soggy then rehana said not enuff oil. i dunno. then i keep dropping things on the floor..vege, onions and rice..omg! i was like luffing thruout...really CMI...but nvm i'll improve on that..so i better remember to turn down the heat next time.

v day 2006
oh...i forgot to blog this...14 feb 06..see i'm postponing doing my work again. nvm a short while this is wat i always tell myself thus not getting anything done at the end.
k yup v day of cos miss lor...haha not only uh hem but also frens! of cos! it's also frenship day wat..still remember when the few of us in engin vday comm 04 rite. dun think is 05. i remember dyeing the flowers! haha..and delivering flowers in sch..
spent 06's here in newcastle. edel and i and regent went to watch 2 movies. final destination 3 and big momma's house 2. omg! the former was super stressed, as usual, like fd1 and fd2. so gruesome and scary..just cant run away from fate. haha then we went on with the latter which was quite funny. not too bad la, an fbi agent becoming a nanny. man. doing laundry = throwing all the clothes into the dustbin! feeding the dog = giving it tequilla!
after that we went to regent's place for dinner. we had yummy mushroom soup. he made one leh...not those soup cans leh. he added milk, which reminded me that time in leeds, fred was saying adding milk to the egg is the trick to fix scrambled eggs. no wonder i always get chopped up omelete instead when i tried to do scrambled eggs.
ok other than the soup, we've got bacon, potatoes and pork chop. watched csi and the beauty and the geeks..funny show. went back quite late at 11pm.

finally catching up on my blog
yes but not my work...man i cant let ming down lor..haven touched his stuff at all..last blog and i'm off to study. haha.
drizzle the whole morning.went with rehana to the halal shop which is like 30min walk away...din expect it to be so far. but it sells many things. edelene was supposed to come with us but she said will meet me later instead, and supposed to meet jiafang at the chinese market at 11. bought lettuce, chicken luncheon meat and tom yam paste from there. haha rehana couldnt decide which sauce or pickles to buy. really dun recognise most of the stuff there, think more of indian spices and food. it was already 1130. but i've msg edel at 1115 to ask her go meet jf first.
i rushed there immed....dun dare to risk walking in to cut thru NUFC, so i saw 270deg cel of it. the other 90 i've always seen it from the sch to china town. long walk but i reached there at 50min. din see anyone. called edel, she's reaching soon. but jf is no where to be seen. shucks! we got bee hoon and rice and tou fu which amazingly cost 90p for 2 square blocks. i think it cost 30cents in sg.
went over to eldon food co got breaded chicken and onions. co-op to get the mushrooms then off to regent's place. we've whipped up a nice meal for 8. fried bee hoon which is simply delicious. with breaded chicken which is praised by everyone...taste superb and those are the ones i've been eating with my noodles..just place into oven can le. and it's 5 for 1P. the spicy chicken still in my fridge but have tried the honey mustard one so i got that for lunch. tom yam soup..forgot lemon and lime, so regent added vinegar for the sour taste..haha modified tom yam soup. jf really missed the feast. tried to contact him online but failed.
we chatted till 5 when i really need to come back...see..chat on msn, dinner and dilly dally-ing...blog till now it's alr 925...haven even started on sch work..omg!

the leeds pple came visit newcastle
edel, jf and i met them(fred, jiayi, elaine and belinda) at the sage, gateshead. we brought them to the baltic's viewing gallery, took some photos and went to see level 2's spencer tunick's works again. but the other time din get to see the video..haha super RA. they filmed the other project in which photos of 1700 nude bodies were taken at the 5 specific venues. so weird lor..the video showed them wearing ponchos at first, then everyone started stripping and positioned themselves. haha then fred was like teasing the girls asking arent those on the screens them? tsk tsk. the video really quite crude la..think the photos are more artistic.
then we crossed the beautiful millenium bridge and we figured out that yes it can really be raised up to allow ships to pass. a real beauty lor that structure. the cables can be kept within the metal body and half of the platform can be kept under the other half. wah...it's really well built la. and it looked super nice too.
went passed castle keep, then to the city centre, china town where i finally got my oyster sauce at only 95p...for a big bottle..only that brand lor..the rest very ex..1 plus for a small bottle, had lunch at chicken cottage, went into st james park...my first time in it also. ya all newcastle's black and white shirts and adidas sports wear. not exactly cheap though.
we then went to the antique museum in sch. i din even went in.. all the tomb stones showing the carvings on it. many souvenirs inside. got monopoly set of newcastle uni leh! very nice lor but 26P. so ex! the sch badge..those collar pins alr cost 6P. well i shall decide whether to buy or not at a later date.
we proceeded to an arts gallery..nothing much inside. very small one also. then brought them to walk past eldon square...the super big shopping centre connecting all the shops...then we walked them back to the sage where they boarded the bus back to leeds. an exhausting day indeed but after that we went to check out a casino. very small...think 7 plus pm is very early so only 6 pple playing inside. there are only roulette tables, black jack tables and those machine kind which just require the player to press the button..those jackpot kind. well we cant figure how the machine works...so many buttons..i thought just need to press one. then the others min bet is 5 P lor! we got a membership card for fun..haha din play at all. then we walk back to eat mac for dinner. 2nd last day be4 the coupon expire. 2P big mac meal so not too bad. besides i was really hungry cos skipped lunch. then we dragged ourselves back to our halls.

the whole of last week
mon. reached newcastle from leeds at 930am. physiology practical 1 at 2pm but it's a comp lab so not too bad. we were just left on our own to do the worksheets but they werent exactly very easy. and we are suppose to read up other notes and take down as it might appear in the exams. however 1 or 1.5 hr later, pple start leaving! i was like haven even started on my worksheet...still copying the notes lor...arghhh nvm...anyway i've nothing on in the evening. i shall just take my time. just need to make sure i hand in be4 5pm.
tue. phamacology seminar at 9. 2nd test . yes! 14/15! pulled up last test 's 4/14 grade. went to meet edel in merz court comp lab to plan for our easter trip. afternoon we went to sta to start booking some of the hostels. decided to follow the route taken by fred and others in leeds. so gg leeds from edin to meet the others to ams, brussels, paris, barcelona, rome, pisa and back london. haven paid yet which is a good thing. so we could go back and consider again, now knowing more pricing from sta.
wed. skipped 11-12 lecture. argh...had to get the planning done. else all the flights and trains prices will keep rising. disgusting system. changed our routes. everything's the same till paris, where we decide to go switz, venice, pisa, rome, barcelona, ibiza, then back to london. we swipe the cards today. no more turning back. pockets were slashed. haha.
thurs. physio seminar 1. best. the tutor was late for 10min. then he came in and said "well here's the EMI questions. pass this around." he sat down and we started doing the test. first 5, really no kick. sec sch work. 2nd 5, need abit of thinking, last 5, erm....foreign! then the tutor said "exchange ur papers with people sitting next to u" then he read out the answers. yup finally for the last 5 sums, someone said"i swore we've never seen this be4" it hasnt been taught. so most likely it'll be over 10 instead of 15. i got an 8. so well. glad that studying helps here. not like nus...and then he asked us to grp and discussed answers for the 2nd part of the seminar. he sat there then 10 min later, he asked if anyone hasnt finished. so i thot he's gg to go thru the qns BUT he just said here are the answers. THEN he disappeared. we were all stunned! haha and then only one copy of the answers still haf to go in front and copy. i quickly copied and went back to hall.
thurs afternoon. the lecturer was amazing. he was explaining abt the constriction and dilations of blood vessels. then he used his pen and made a scratch on his arm on the visualiser! he exerted quite a significant amt of force leh. next he talked about the nerves and how pple got sexually aroused and how pple feel when being chased by a tiger..haha...he's a funny guy. then another thing abt adrenaline and epiphrine. well the former is british and epiphrine's american...then he started saying about he dun understand why must american name it epiphrine. cant remember exactly wat he said but at last he realised that there might be americans in the LT so he ended off abruptly saying he shant go any further. haaha..the whole LT was like luffing uncontrollably lor. omg!
fri. pharmacology lab. super big lab. more than 100 students inside lor. amazed! then the lab coordinator will just brief us on the lab work using mic and they have televisions hanging from the ceiling showing the slides. then everyone has to wear the lab coat and goggles and surgical gloves.. adding weird chemicals to microsomes from pig's liver in 1.5ml tubes..really small. then haha i was more used to those glass test tubes we used in jcs. then theirs were all plastic so they're lighter. then keep adding chemicals, incubating, vortexing and centrifuging. then transfer into cuvette and read off the spectrometer. not really fun. work in 3s..really la..good frens dun= good work partners. not very efficient working with rehana. the other girl left early cos she has work. just different styles. experience. but really if i did it myself i could haf left after 2 hours. but we used all 3 hours. so boring in the lab.

sunday and night in leeds
thanks fred so much for hosting us. and even let me and edel slp on his bed while he and jf went to the other room offered by his flatmate who's not in that night..so nice also. we played daidee the night and went to bed at abt 2 plus.
next morning, fred fixed us fried bee hoon and scrambled egg for breakfast! wah...first time i eat fried hoon after 2 months? he's very hardworking lor. we had some probs getting out of bed at 10am.haha. after the sumptuous breakfast, we 3 went to the visitor centre, got the map and some brochures then waited for a long time for the bus which we figured out that comes at hourly interval. got on and headed towards temple newsam. all the attractions are off leeds city centre. transportation is just wasting our pounds and pences. we reached there, drizzling and we trek upslope , round half the golf course and thru a forest then reached the house. the field in the house is wow! got a guy which brings his dog to the mid field. the scenery is super breathtaking..so country side.
we proceeded to the visitor centre to buy the tix for entrance to the house and the farm. we totally have no idea why is it called a temple. the farm is really an experience..all the equipment and machinery, the animals and their stables and coops and pens. too bad we din see the horses. and the man at the ticketing booth were telling us to look for one wk old piglets which we will see if we can find the rabbits but no....we din see either of them. there are so many different kinds of chickens, geese, ducks, pigs, cows and the bulls are in the restrictred area but oops..we went right through it. the bulls look really scary, think we will die if all of them jumped out of the cages and charged at us. they haf rings on their nostrils, making so much noise.
we have to cross a short tunnel to the other side where the sheeps are. then the stupid chinese geese, yes that's the breed, keep making noises when we passed them. jiafang was like walk one step and then stop then walk. the geese made noises when there's movement. and it all started by one goose. the others were echoing.they stopped when he stopped..haha like conducting an orchestra lor.
next to the magnificent house. man...u'll take 15 min to walk from the bedroom to the dining room. it's real big. wat a house! really like the space in there. but it might be scary if there are few pple living in it la..but these kinds of houses sure haf countless servants. the bedrooms are accompanied by a dressing room beside it. the bedrooms are like the size of 3 seminar rooms, those larger ones in E4, or rather 4 master bedrooms in HDB flats and the dressing room is like 2/3 the size of the bedroom. the dining room is the size of a convention hall lor...and on the wall are thousands of paintings. very victorian style. it's really awesome inside.
we figured out that there are some houses which are closed in winters are becos the king and queens stayed there. so when they were not staying there for the summers, it'll be open to the public. so this temple newsam is not in use anymore. it was a beautifully conserved masterpiece. the archaelogists and others restored the whole place based on photographs. but too bad the kitchen is gone. cant be restored i think, it was replaced with a fire exit. how i wished i could video taped the entire place. just cant described in words.
rooms are not just bedrooms and dining halls...there are several other rooms for certain purposes..cant remember all definitely. there are 3-4 levels. and some rooms including the dining room were used as wards during the first world war. some princess and prince's rooms overlooked the garden with a central fountain. the house wasnt just occupied by one family obviously. there were a few, so some rooms were used for different purposes. fantastic trip!
we waited another 45 min for the bus in the rain. headed back to leeds city centre and walked back to fred's hall...wah...got rice with green curry and a chicken thigh. yummy!!! super good host sia. his another flat mate, peace, is a vietnamese and she's making vietnamese spring roll lor! feeling nostalgic haha. talked to her abit and ya she knew hoa sua...as usual i cant just say hua1 ser1, she din catch it the first time, then i tried to speak with viet accent then she understand..haha i can still fake viet accent.peace taught i expert in cooking leh! haha then i told her i went there to cultural exchange and for some proj, so i'm not a hoa sua student. well hoa sua restaurant is really famous. she did the fried one cos i remember the white, unfried one has a kind of grass or herb with a super strong smell lo.
after dinner, we played bridge then we went to the pub to have some shots and barcardi lime. quite nice leh...the drinks...but the place is ya as usual very smoky. oops fred was abit seyh...haha but can lah not really drunk. staggered abit at first but the cold just got us more awake. walked back to his hall and ate some cookies...wah leeds have cheap digestive biscuits and coated with chocolate some more lor...only 33p...this time we insisted on slping in slping bags instead then fred and jf took the bed, cos his flatmate came back.
fred told us to take the sandwiches he made, from the fridge tmr morning. so thoughtful rite! haha i'm really impressed. cos our train is 7am on mon.
mon morning, he took the free shuttle bus around leeds city centre with us to the train station and there we bade farewell. we got on the train back to newcastle.

we figured out that there are some houses which are closed in winters are becos the king and queens stayed there. so when they were not staying there for the summers, it'll be open to the public. so this temple newsam is not in use anymore. it was a beautifully conserved masterpiece. the archaelogists and others restored the whole place based on photographs. but too bad the kitchen is gone. cant be restored i think, it was replaced with a fire exit. how i wished i could video taped the entire place. just cant described in words.
rooms are not just bedrooms and dining halls...there are several other rooms for certain purposes..cant remember all definitely. there are 3-4 levels. and some rooms including the dining room were used as wards during the first world war. some princess and prince's rooms overlooked the garden with a central fountain. the house wasnt just occupied by one family obviously. there were a few, so some rooms were used for different purposes. fantastic trip!
we waited another 45 min for the bus in the rain. headed back to leeds city centre and walked back to fred's hall...wah...got rice with green curry and a chicken thigh. yummy!!! super good host sia. his another flat mate, peace, is a vietnamese and she's making vietnamese spring roll lor! feeling nostalgic haha. talked to her abit and ya she knew hoa sua...as usual i cant just say hua1 ser1, she din catch it the first time, then i tried to speak with viet accent then she understand..haha i can still fake viet accent.peace taught i expert in cooking leh! haha then i told her i went there to cultural exchange and for some proj, so i'm not a hoa sua student. well hoa sua restaurant is really famous. she did the fried one cos i remember the white, unfried one has a kind of grass or herb with a super strong smell lo.
after dinner, we played bridge then we went to the pub to have some shots and barcardi lime. quite nice leh...the drinks...but the place is ya as usual very smoky. oops fred was abit seyh...haha but can lah not really drunk. staggered abit at first but the cold just got us more awake. walked back to his hall and ate some cookies...wah leeds have cheap digestive biscuits and coated with chocolate some more lor...only 33p...this time we insisted on slping in slping bags instead then fred and jf took the bed, cos his flatmate came back.
fred told us to take the sandwiches he made, from the fridge tmr morning. so thoughtful rite! haha i'm really impressed. cos our train is 7am on mon.
mon morning, he took the free shuttle bus around leeds city centre with us to the train station and there we bade farewell. we got on the train back to newcastle.
saturday in manchester
as usual...i'm trying to blog things that are exactly one wk ago. i woke up at 0430, met up with edel and jf and we boarded the 0600 train to manchester via leeds and york. need to break up the trip with a few stops to get the cheapest deal. the direct train was almost 3 times the price of ours!
we reached manchester too early in the morning. the streets were empty so we went around taking some photos, while waiting for the visitor centre to open. manchester's chinatown is so small! i dun think we missed anything but it only has a park and 2 buildings?
took a few brochures and the city map before heading towards the city. there are many shopping malls but we din shop of cos! it's only a day's trip so no time to waste in shopping malls with shops that are mostly da4 tong2 xiao3 yi4. cant miss the art gallery..haha all towns haf at least a few galleries, so artistic here. well this manchester one, to me, is better than the newcastlegateshead one but think becos the latter is contemporary arts. too cheem for me.haha. the manchester art gallery houses hundreds of pictures! i like the life like paintings most, particularly the animals. i still remember, after one wk, the life like cheetah, galloping horses and dead lion. omg! they are so real...i thought they were photographs.how did the artists capture the expressions and movement on paper? almost impossible lor..3 levels in total but wow! too bad we cant take pics.
then the manchester wheel, cant compare to the famous london eye la...haha anyway i haven toured london, but from edelene, this one turns much faster than the london one...think it took abt 30 to 45 min there. this one look only 10min?
next is the urbis, very high tech building with all the laser on screens. we printed a free ID (sticker type). and well done, rehana said i look like 13! after that we walked to look for supposed attractions but those 2 are....ermm... nvm. they are the bridgewater hall and G-mex.
next the museum of science and industry. quite interesting...there are many grps of children or classes, seem like gg there for expeditions. an entire room with the timeline of inventions. then a room with all the hands-on gadgets. numerous...but there's one which test our reflexes and reaction time..but the queue is too long. very crowded with kids and parents or maybe teachers.
treking along the expressway to old trafford is next. haha carolyn was saying that it's too far from the city centre and impossible to walk but ya we did. finally saw manchester united! and a full 360 deg view of it! we reached the east tower where the shop is. but we wanted to go into the museum which is in the north tower. so it should be just on the right but it seems like there's construction works there, so we tried the left to the south tower, no way to cut thru the entire building at all! we went on to the west tower then a tower under construction! no north tower? we walked around the entire construction site, thru the carpark then we saw the north tower! arghhhhh...it's just beside the construction work we saw when we were at the east tower. we went in, skipping the stadium tour which was claimed good by fred when we went leeds the next day. that was another 2P plus more to get in! perhaps we should have gone in. lots of trophies and jerseys in the museum. ok now then i know that nike is with man U and adidas with newcastle. but well i dint follow these clubs closely wat.
was alr dark when we passed by the imperial war museum.it was alr closed by the time we reached there. we crossed the bridge and walked towards the lowry, another attraction. the architecture of the building is quite nice but it's just a big place with cinemas. we had our dinner at a foodcourt in the lowry sports mall. guess wat food court is that? yup the setting is exactly the same as in sg but the stalls are fast food stalls. BK, fish n chips, subway, some dunno wat fat jackets etc....sick of fast food. well BK was the cheapest so ya...here it's either BK or mac and mac is becos i got the coupons from erik. but well today 19 feb expire le. that's all for the day, boarded the metro back to the bus station, ready to head for leeds. and we met fred and frens on the same bus.

must blog...farnie memories
cooked bee hoon with ham and lettuce for lunch. rehana cooked chick peas with her usual spices and seasoning. though it's the same recipe but it really smells good.
really had to get some reading done since i've another EMI on tue and i'm only back from leeds on mon morning. then mon afternoon got a lab, lucky no need prep. had read some instructions from the study guide that there's a practical protocol booklet. but i dun haf it! so i went to ask rehana, haha she din even know. so we quickly put on our coat and went to the office to ask. the person at the office very funny lor, she asked who says that there's a protocol booklet, when we alr showed her that it was stated in the study guide. -_-". yeah lucky rehana asked me to put on long pants cos i wanted to just go out in shorts. but i still wore slippers instead of shoes. on the way to the office, i felt like i was stepping on ice.
on the way back wasnt so bad. maybe the body had accustom to it, but it's still quite cold. well, it's like the 2nd or the 3rd third time the sky is so clear, the clouds so beautifully crafted against the blue background, with the sunlight forming an aura around the clouds. so i told rehana that the sky looks very nice. and she said oh i din see that! i was like pointing out then she say oh is it? hahahaha i was stunned. then i looked at her and said the sky,up there. she said OH i thought u said this guy! wah we had a great time laughing over that. haha she added that she heard THIS not that, then like she din see anyone near us. haha phantom guy!
then i came back, talked to ming on msn. he so farnie lor. he was like very frustrated with his colleague becos the colleague ask him to lecture on his notes when ming alr has his own. lecturers will fight over this kind of stuff? so cute rite. k hope the dinner later will be fun. i shall continue read notes

it's always this way
sigh i was actually going to read the online notes for matlab and simulink. need to familiarise myself with the program before i could actually do the module specially created for me by ming. i'm suppose to design a control system for a domestic water heater, controlling the temperature and the level of water at different times of the day to meet the demand of the household. yes but i dont even know the simulink program how to design values for the equations. well it really looks cheeem to me.
yup i only read like 2 sentences, then i transfer pics from my hp to the laptop via infrared and come to blog instead of reading more sentences.

dinner...tomyam soup with noodles but the soup dried up but anyway it tastes nicer becos the tom yam flavour is really in the noodles. with lettuce, ham and oven baked honey and mustard chicken.
i ate dinner only at 9 yesterday. rehana was very kind to offer going into the kitchen with me to get me start cooking. yea i was too lazy and just dont feel comfortable cooking in the kitchen with the others in the living room. yup i've given up iniating conversation. i was walked past the rest. one was actually sitting on the floor painting and though i can make some conversation out of that. well i just ignored. more interested to eat my dinner in my room. sianz lor. why do we haf to stay under one roof? replacing them with all my close frens will be 1 million times more fun. then i wont miss home so much too. or perhaps it shouldnt be in the form of a flat. if it's like pgp, a few rooms with corridors then it might be better.
still very happy to conference with merv, amy and jiali on skype last night. though it really lagged cos i can hear voices overlapping so i really took sometime to register wat each individual is talking. is it really only me who thinks it lags? must be my internet la, cant use voipstunt, the free international phone and cant play o2jam. no life lor. think next time i must go over to edel's room to watch her dvd le. i should haf brought some, but i thought online games could occupy me. well done. everything also cant play.
k i go read some notes. dun want to fail.

first seminar
haha i'm just training my memory by blogging so many things at one go. yea first seminar today. got an EMI assessment at the start of every seminar. EMI just means multiple choice, somewhat equivalent la. there are 5, so 1.2% each for 6%. yup sep is SU so i'll just need to get a S and a pass here is only 40%.
BUT the previous night was over at edel's room, so obviously i didnt study at all. omg. i got a 4 out of 14. that's like abt 28% so it means a U. so scary. but really almost impossible to score la. cos it's memorising work! the 2nd half is the non-memory work which i know how to do, is not graded, they are discussion qn for the seminar. these are analysing which graphs are due to competitive/irreversible or full/partial agonists and antagonists. ok nvm all bio terms. engineers are more accustomed to understanding wat are taught in lecture and then apply.
well the graded part is like choosing from the options, which are nuclear receptors, g-protein receptors, wat kinase-linked receptors. the options are like insulin, muscarinic/nicotinic acetylcholine, oestrogen etc. omg! how would i know? well it just hints that i need to study, at least secure this 6%, no now abt 5% and then 9% for the practicals which i only need to attend and then submit the write up online. i'll then just need 25% to pass. but anyway i should aim higher la perhaps 60% cos usually marks will go way below the aim. sianz! why did i choose to study this?
meeting jiafang and edel after that, so obviously immed complain to them. haha. then we go to the train station to apply for my railcard and collect the tix that we've ordered online the night be4.

planning for the weekend trip
yup visiting manchester then leeds coming wkend. edelene's finally back from nottingham on monday, that was yesterday. so i went over castle leezes at 6pm. dark and super windy. somehow my heart beat faster. i quicken my steps to catch up with another girl walking across the cow field. oh man she walked super fast! as in my speed is alr considered fast by my frens, yet she's always getting further from me!
waited for edel at the reception area be4 she brought me into the hall's comp cluster. i actually din know hall has comp clusters, but she said raffles halls have too. so well. that's something new. we considered and compared betw trains and bus fares finally reached to a conclusion of train from newcastle at 0600 (real early) to manchester with stopovers at york and leeds =15.35P, tour manchester on sat and leave by bus at 1930 for leeds arriving at 2035 = 7.6P, staying over leeds is still a prob. sigh. then tour leeds on sunday, stayover again till monday morn when we'll take train back to newcastle = 8P. mon i only haf lab at 2pm so i wont be missing anything.
after that, we went over to the snooker room. i din play, just watched, funny rules. u've to hit the red ball be4 u can hit one coloured balls to gain points. then u can put back the colour balls at specific locations until u finish hitting all the red balls, then by sequence, get the yellow, brown, green, blue, pink and black balls in. the points systems i din really catch wat is it like and just too lazy, also dun wanna disturb them by asking.
2230. back to edel's room. chatted for awhile, so thirsty and yes i scalded my tongue and lips with the just-boiled water. lucky the effect doesnt last. just scald not burn. then i place it on the window sill. so windy! it cooled quite fast. then edel was asking if need alarm. i confidently say no need cos i'll wake up at 6 and guess wat. 820am. she has lesson at 9 lor. we got ready and went down for breakfast, bacon and egg, edel shared hers with me but they really dun taste nice, and it's the same everyday! lucky only late for 5min.

my niceeee flat mate
rehana is the person here i can get along best with. haha but strictly speaking she's not really in perfect matching freq as me la..cos she more girlish..very cute one lor. she'll shop with her frens then she'll come back telling me the stuff that she did. so niceee of her to share with me. brightens up my day lor. her taste 's bit like carol's haha...she likes those beany and sparkling kind of stuff on dresses and shoes.
wat's more interesting is that she had gotten 4 other frens to rent a house tog for next yr when they'll be in stage 2 and thus not allowed to stay in campus hostels. students in stage 2 and above have to look for own private apartments, so they were all busy viewing flats and discussing about the prices, facilities and amenities nearby the area, distance from the uni etc. so many to consider! she was sharing all the considerations they had before making the decision. well finally they decided on one that's in fenham. esp good for her as the only grocery shop selling halal meat is near the house.
i;ve seen her cooked curry, not too difficult. corriander and chilli power, crushed chilli, tamarine powder, onion and ginger with oil then potatoes, peppers and water. simmer till the gravy turns thicker, non-watery. had seen her spiced rice. wanna learn that too. she dun know wat's fried rice, as in just with egg, mixed vege and ham or la4 chang2(what 's that in english ah, not sausages rite), very simple kind. so maybe i'll try that someday for her. man i hope i do it well.

some miscellaneous thoughts...
temperature's up till now. just checked..it's 7 but it says 'feels like 2'. yea no wonder. i was wearing t-shirt and shorts till now that i've to put on a sweater and long pants. last 2 days had been really windy. it's gd if the wind comes from behind. it's like urging u forward, facilitate acceleration. haha. but i'll just tear uncontrollably if the wind comes from the front, couldnt even open my eyes. so strong and cold.
yup many had been complaining about the taps here, one hot and one cold. extreme, scalding or freezing. cant regulate the temp at all. well maybe i had said this be4, but still just want to get it out, again. i can immediately wash the hot pot after cooking with the iced water without scalding myself.
bathroom is still too small. i just feel restricted to rub myself. keep hitting the walls. the main door of the blk keep slamming. super loud. real lousy damping system.sigh.
lessons are still boring...i'm only having lectures from 2 modules and i'm already like spending equivalent or more than jiafang and edelene who are taking 5-6 mod. wt's the sch of biomed sci doing? so shiong! really fortunate to meet ming, the chem eng prof, who designed 2 modules specially for me, so that i dun haf to attend his lectures and all contact time is under tutorial hours. ya so all tutorials and indiv project. he's really my saviour here.
he's super friendly, treated me to lunch and ya haha i cant call him sir or prof. must call ming. just cant forget the other time on msn, he replied with 'yes mdm!'. i was like oh no! then he just said 'now you understand how i felt when u call me sir'. haha where got the same. he's zhang3 bei4
mah. i cant possibly be disrespectful but then he just said respect is to be earned. haha tuning in. he's gg to be examined on his phd thesis in a week's time. yea life long learning. i dunno wat to say. so onz. then he's very hardworking and responsible one. always say got work to do. i thot pple here wont touch anything outside office hours. i seriously think he's the only exception here. even compared to sg. 9pm he just got on msn to remind me of the meeting tmr at 12 plus, and that he's gg home. at 9pm!
by now, cailing and eva should be over in korea, participating in some CE competition. hope they're enjoying themselves over there.
really liked the digestive biscuits. and it's so cheap here. 40plus pence as compared to near 3 dollars in sg. the one from marks and spencer is nicer than the co-op one. haha ya not the nus co-op, it's just a company's name with a food hall like ntuc. pizza is real cheap too. one for 99p, as in those frozen ones but u just place it into the oven for 20 min and u'll get a 10 to 12 inch one. the co-op bread is very cheap too. 26p. and it's the longer loaf kind.

by now, cailing and eva should be over in korea, participating in some CE competition. hope they're enjoying themselves over there.
really liked the digestive biscuits. and it's so cheap here. 26p. and it's the longer loaf kind.

way to quay side and exploring castle keep
we walked for the longest time ever! erm set off at 745 and we purposely walked another route to the city centre to explore the rest of the city other than the uni area.
keep seeing metro stations, so we've actually walked from stations to stations. phew. but their metro stations are at weird ulu locations, not like in sg where they serve crowded places. reached this part of the city where we can see far away bulldings. think that's the peak of the city, can see st james park and the city centre and the other side, the far away north sea (we guessed one, cos it's really a super big water area).
we continued walking till we finally see the tyne river! yes after 2 wks. to think that i actually visited durham's castle before newcastle's very own places of interest. nice bridges and river, just like those we see online and on postcards. gateshead on the other side of the river. might go over next time. another quite popular city too.
we crossed the millenium bridge and went into the Baltic, the centre of contemporary arts. well i cant believe i went in too but anyway admission is free though as usual, they'll suggest visitors to donate generously and they state the amount too! quite nice la the exhibits but certain paintings just seem like drafts and anyhow draw one lor. haha obviously i dun understand art. but there are some really well drawn, those perception kinds and lifelike kinds. cant take pics inside. these are levels 3 and 4.
level 5 is the viewing gallery and a maze thing with exhibitions at every turn. it started with a 'dunno clay or plastic human' standing upright and which is cut into half, separated by some planks. then the next one we saw is the black cat. i think it's a cat or a panther. so scary. it's cut into half, really looked like real one. dunno if it's fake or real, but it's sealed in a big display box. can see that it's painted black though, the fur looked hardened from the paint. so i thot everything's half. but luckily no. not all. the rest are more artistic masterpieces which i can hardly understand. got out of the maze and onto the other levels.
finally we finished the visit with 2nd level, the famous work by spencer tunick in NewcastleGateshead on 17 jul 2005, featuring 1700 naked bodies. he's using the nude bodies as raw material to intervene and transform a chosen site. the bodies all lie side by side, carpetting the entire pavement by the riverside(Newcastle Quayside, on the Gateshead Millenium Bridge, South Shore Road, The Side and Mill Road Car Park) amazing!
we walked through the sage gateshead, which is the equivalent of esplanade. nothing much inside, at least on the ground level, not sure if there more levels up but we can see the transparent roof from the ground level alr. only a large cafe and a small band, 5-6pple, playing instruments and singing. the guy's voice is so niceee, very country type and alittle jazzy. but cant video and record. dunno why.
we walked to the green bridge, to cross the tyne river a 2nd time back to newcastle city centre. followed road signs to castle keep. it cost 1.5P but students 50p so well must enter! newcastle's castle leh. amazing piece of architecture, i was wondering wat's a castle for. it's not a palace but there's the king and queen's chambers, narrow corridors and staircases keep turning round and round. there're watch towers which are obviously for lookout of enemies. the experience cant be described in the words, i'll keep this short and refer to the photos haha...my camera not enuff memory lor. but i didnt miss anything great la. most are snapped.great day out!

visitin jiafang's place
omg...it's really super far away, think from tampines to kembangan lor...his place is so ulu and far away from sch. actually i thot the house is very cramped but he likes it so ok lor. many cemeteries along the roads too. we went to search for nearby supermarkets, found sainbury's and bought some stuff back.
though it's kinda lucky to haf 2 gals from china as flat mates but he wont be able to experience the british life ba. he's taking over another guy who's leaving and he left the house in quite a mess..haha but we make do with it. made dinner (pizza, egg toast and chicken) then watched a few dvds of mr bean. some watched be4 le but there are some new ones. the discs managed to entertain us for the evening. then we switched to hell boy, actually it's really quite nice but i was too tired, dozed off half way.
went over to slp in one of the girls' room...of cos illegal la, never get any permission leh. but i got put everything back nicely in the morning. we made egg toast and cornflakes in milk for breakfast then watched more mr bean. haha there're many ghost stories like 2 sisters, the ring etc but he dun dare to watch. haha. ok din finish the disc be4 we left for castle keep and tyne river.

getting into the culture?
lecture is getting interesting. all the drugs and how it affects the body. yes that's pharmacology. the female lecturer is good. but erm abit fast, becos of the accent, certain terms which i haven heard be4 will haf to take sometime for me to register . and by the time i got the term, she's onto the next point. i'm quite fortunate that i take bio be4 la, most of the terms i've heard be4 even with her accent, i can still make out what is it. sat in the sch's cafe with rehana, my flat mate, and her frens. it's really small not like nus canteen. yes that;s why it's called a cafe instead of a canteen. her frens are from sweden and iran. haha quite an international bunch la. 2 bros from sweden. and they're studying the same course. cool rite. i've also registered my module but there might be some changes, again.
after lecture, i got to meet ming, the chem eng prof. yes as mentioned by fellow singaporeans, he's super nice. he's going to design a module specially to cater for me. can u believe it? so niceeee...so paiseh lor...like special treatment, i hope i dun give him extra work, causing inconvenience. well at least he claimed that there's no prob at all....he set the syllabus, i work then he access. haha...but one thing la...haha dun think i can slack. he's like quite into self development? of cos think i should learn something in preparation for FYP when i return. but honestly i had planned to slack and just make sure that i cleared the relevant MCs...oops.haha. so the module need some more negotiation and confirmation then it'll be done. thinking of replacing the digital control module from ee with one of ming's mod. the dig control quite cheem ah, edelene might be dropping that mod, so i might face some prob studying it myself, it's abt converting from analogue to digital systems. erm all engineering terms la. and it's using matlab! though it'll be useful, but it's too new for me, i haven any knowledge at all!
hah! finally get to see jiafang, from ISE, he just arrived 2-3 days ago after celebrating cny in china. he's also busy cfming his mod. eh stays in a faraway flat from campus, 30 min walk away, can u imagine that he has to walk every day to and fro. omg! i'm gg to visit his flat tmr. wont be with edelene this wkend, cos she's gg over nottingham to meet her fren. there wont be enuff space for me to stay over, so the train tix 20 P for a day trip...erm...not very worth la. i might just give that town a miss, or i'll see if i can drop by during easter trip. jiafang came over to my room, we chatted for quite sometime, updating each other with the happenings around.
ooh...i cooked the instant macaroni with canned salmon in lemon sauce left behind by the chem eng guys who returned to sg just a few days back. haha i checked the mail too late. zq's sis, jin and her bf, erik cooked curry! so nice of them to invite me over. well i cant miss that. curry! even in sg i seldom eat. sun fei from flat 17 came over to pick me up, so we chop chop go over erik's place, flat 37. poor edelene, her laptop crash. oh my that's the worse thing to happen. she din join us for curry, think her fren helping her solve the prob ba. wow, the sweet and sour pork, toasted bread with curry chicken and some rice. it's a spread lor! delicious really..the curry is of suepr high standard. gin took the curry and chilli powder specially from sg over. yummy! great dinner.
after dinner we went hancock, a pub nearby, 15 min walk away. well first time i drank one whole pint and some sips of other types of beer. mine was tetley, bitter but smooth. i've also tried carling which's gassy(spelling looks funny) and diesel which is ribena beer, haha it's blackcurrant syrup with beer. it's very cheap, one pint is 1Pnot too bad but a bit sweet. then we tried wine, rose. 5.50P for a bottle. man i was real red. haha we were like taking photos. but anyway they say it's good to be red, and i can drink quite well compared to the other guys who started swaying after half a pint. the place is quite nice la, but abit too smoky ya? an experience. till now it's 12.21 am...still feeling warm. think can slp quite well tonight. k nitey!

first self made dinner
hahahhaa..so proud of myself. although it's like cooking maggee mee, it's not maggee mee, so i cooked something diff. rude helped me get tom yam paste. so nice of him and the soup taste nice too..it doesnt look spicy but it is. and i liked it. it keeps me warm too.
well first u boil the water then put one tablespoon of paste in. drop the noodles in and finally the washed lettuce. easy rite? really beginner meal. haha. so i ate this while watching the tv..it's like real or myth. was that the title. i remembered watching in sg. it's longi intro me one leh. but i think this one they just tell the story la...supposed to be true la..sounds horrifying but a little fake leh. it's abt a man staying in a haunted room in a cathedral then the black hound always roam abt for food. well but those scenes of the old cathedral looked spooky on screen.
after that i brought all my utensils, crockery and cutlery in. oops i think those in the living room must think that i'm mad. haha...aiiya who ask them to make the kitchen so "neat". everything never wash lor..wat if they use my pot and never wash. then everytime i've to wash before AND after cooking. and if they dun leave unwashed stuff overnight, maybe i dun mind but overnight dried up alr, very hard to wash lor and the tap water is like ice water. my fingers went numb after that lor...why the tap in the bathrm got hot water but not the kitchen. aiya but the hot tap also cant regulate the temp one lor...too hot liao.

first 2 days in sch
super nice and helpful sch of biomed sci. it is where i took 2 mod namely pharmacology n physiology. can know drugs and self cure cos i think seeing docs are a waste of money and physio is sorta related, knowing more abt the human body.. cant take bio mod in nus so will take it here. haha..too bad here doesnt haf mod such as skiiing or horseback riding for me to take as UEMs.. i know other unis haf..so dun tempt me anymore. the prof is very nice. he just brought me to the office and 2-3 staffs split work to help me look for timetables and register for my modules. though they do things slow and steady, i like the teamwork that they haf. very organised.
hmm i'll haf to fret abt getting the transfer of credits approved. this is just one issue.
i went to the sch of ME. i didnt lias with any of the staff there be4 i came over. i've no knowledge of having to do anything like this lor. online info wasnt clear. and my nus sep coord said i can cfm the mod here then email them for mapping. well now, the ME sch here doesnt allow me to take any mod, saying that all their mod spans over 2 sems so they cant let me take any! was i not shocked?omg! i cant clear any TE here! it really cant be lor. i've FYP and design mod in yr 4 alr,i dun haf time to take so many mod back home. even i do, timetable may clash and cors wont allow me to take either. by hook or by crook i need to clear 2 TEs here. so paiseh ..i broke down in front of them but i really endure for very long le...then they so insistent. i even said that i can just self study, dun need any prof to teach me specially, just set a paper for me can le. then they say need to check and will email me again. this is alr the 2nd time i went to the office le. they say hopefully by the end of today. yes really hopeless cos i din receive it. it's only 621pm. office closes at 4. super well done.
well of cos i've to start doing back ups then. but i still hope i can do ME mod cos there'll be higher chances to map as TEs. but i've looked for CHe and ee mod, at least they are engin mod, hoping nus will approve as TE if ME here deny me of any mod.planning and planning...no ending. life has been too good liao...no frens i know come tog, pple here alr has their click, perhaps of diff culture, they are just not as hospitable as asians ba. if i were the majority, i 'll get the minor in and help her adapt better unless she isolate herself and refuse to join. of cos i take initiative to mix ard, but it always doesnt last..it takes 2 hands to clap one wat. ok unless one palm is big enuff. so yup all friendly hi bye frens. they dun even cook tog. they also never take initiative to come knock on my door and invite me to anything? like wat i heard in nus halls. well maybe next time they go clubbing i'll be bhb and just "yo yo. can i join u all?" so duh...haha..it's not me lor. haha if they go skiing or other fun sports i might say "hey hey sounds fun can i come along?" but their pastime is like drinking and clubbing. i dun mind go and see once la but they nv ask wat. nvm lai ri fang chang, i'll go try once one la..
sianz lor...just want my mod to be settled then i wont be so fan2 cos life here is still within my control. i can still enjoy myself if i want to. and oh so many niceee and helpful frens, albert, rude, chinchao and merv, amy, abel, tze ting etc...they auto offer help one lor...cheered me up by chatting with me. and many more whom i'm sry that i've no chance to talk to u all yet. cos most of the time i'm doing my mod.so vexing. make me miss sg more. but it's only been a wk.
edel and i chatted for a long time last night. nice chatting with her. we shared same sentiments! lucky got her here lor. when it's abt 8pm, she went over blk17 to get blanket from fren. wow! we were surprised at how foggy it was. visibility is very low! so obviously it'll be dangerous for her to walk back to her hall...of cos i asked to stay over lo. yup great to haf company. too bad we dun stay in the same flat else can cook tog lo.
lessons were boring. attended 2 today. the 2nd lecturer is better but i still drifted off sometime. nothing much, one lect on blood, the other only introductory. i bought a lab coat and goggles for 15 P..so ex. they're for practicals...why need the coat one. and goggles i thot it's free from the lab.

sightseeing in durham
it was 2 days ago but well...
i went with edel and met up with one int soc person and all other international students. int soc isnt doing their job lor..one person to bring the whole grp?
took train...only one stop, wanted to skip the tix like wat mentioned by sg frens. but we dun dare to..haha..it costs 5 P. but if we are caught not buying tix it'll be 20 P.
should haf bought one way though cos they didnt check when we return.
durham is a small town..upon reaching, the int soc person just say that it's free and ez and they'll be havin lunch at 1. erm...ok..so we walked tog towards the city centre and the castle where the cathedral and the uni of durham is. midway we separated. the grp gets smaller as we neared the city centre. everyone stopped to take photos and diverted the route. so edel and i did the same. haha but we still reached the castle with most of them. cant take pic inside..such a pity...it's really magnificent inside. but tombs are all under the ground and some outside. there's a service inside...pple were walking round and round and there's a choir and band..they sing super nice lor. how i wished i could record down.
i went M&S and bought bread, spread and biscuit = 1.57P..ok la..not too ex. need to stock up else i'll be starving. edel intro me to whittard tea...wow...the nicest and most unique tea i've ever tasted. but it costs 2 for 8P. too ex..will source ard for better prices. then we had BK for lunch 2.99P of cos not worth lor..
we went to the river side which is super duper cold..walked one round and back to the station. we walked thru newcastle city centre back to our halls. midway we stopped at a supermart in chinatown and i bought some beehoon and noodles for 1.55P ex rite...flour only leh. well it's still cheaper than eating out. not a bad sightseeing day.

i went M&S and bought bread, spread and biscuit = 1.57P..ok la..not too ex. need to stock up else i'll be starving. edel intro me to whittard tea...wow...the nicest and most unique tea i've ever tasted. but it costs 2 for 8P. too ex..will source ard for better prices. then we had BK for lunch 2.99P of cos not worth lor..
we went to the river side which is super duper cold..walked one round and back to the station. we walked thru newcastle city centre back to our halls. midway we stopped at a supermart in chinatown and i bought some beehoon and noodles for 1.55P ex rite...flour only leh. well it's still cheaper than eating out. not a bad sightseeing day.
