881 tell the story of The Papaya Sisters who are two childhood friends who grew up mesmerized by the flitter and glamour of 'getai'.. a local production..think it's really gd cos young pple will know more abt this getai culture in the seventh month.
it's basically a 50% chinese and 50% hokkien musical show. the starting's really cmi...i watch alr i want to cover my eyes..hahah very lame de. but then for the rest of the show all the meaning are within the songs' lyrics and as the show is kinda a tribute to mr chen jing lang, it's more meaningful. but i still think the "magic" effects during the fight betw the durian and papaya sisters are crappy. sighz
and from http://royston-tan.blogspot.com/ where the chinese song is quite nice.
the last time i watched was like 8 yrs ago, when i was still staying in tampines, where there's a getai for one or 2 nights just at the field in front of my blk where i used to run ard when i was young. very loud and haf colourful lights. and being a little gal then, i liked to run ard with my bros and soaked ourselves in the dry ice aka "smoke" and i still can rmb the funny smell. but so shiok...can scream and no parents to scold us cos the speakers are blasting damn loudly and of cos they've to end at 11pm.
and finally just 1 hr ago, amazingly, there's one at simpang!!! and so my mummy dragged me to see it. more chinese songs leh. but manz the singers quite pretty and young leh..and the main pt is they haf gd figure lo.. tat might be the reason contributing to the big crowd. i din expect such a big crowd at such a ulu place plus i thot nobody watches it nowadays and well i'm wrong. the eating and auction event also quite big...so many pple eating there leh...poor spize and other shops were like fewer pple, but then i guessed 830 was still early cos at 9 plus the whole place was filled with pple..cars anyhow parked cos the whole car park was kinda blocked. and i'm even more surprised to see zq and cy!!! after nasi goreng pattaya and lemon tea, i've to go home liao..how i wish tat there's no work tmr.
