Continued memoirs.

So warm…inside the room. I passed him the relevant accommodation letters, he did some admin stuff, scribbling some words and asking me to sign. He arranged the papers while he told me that he was waiting for somebody to take over his shift at the other office and exclaimed that they are short. (of manpower) haha…w/o the first part of the sentence, I would be thinking why would he tell me that they are not tall? Erm ok it’s duh. Anyway he searched for my keys and kindly took the heaviest bag for me and guided me to my flat. Actually the red one isn’t very heavy becos there’re wheels. So I was pulling the small black one with the heavy duffel bag on it with one hand and the other carrying my laptop bag. He walked very fast. It was a good 5-10min walk. It seemed never ending that’s why I checked the watch. In the drizzle. Damn cold. The hands are dying from the weight. Terrible…indescribable.

Finally. Ok the ground floor are seniors, first floor mixed, second all girls, third couples. So the blk has 4 floors with 2 flats in each. Each flat has 6 rooms, a living room and a kitchen. Oh yes the security man kindly carried the red bag and the black duffel bag up the stairs, 3 levels up. I managed the laptop and the small black bag. He opened the door and ‘hi girls! You’ve a new flat mate!’. Response: ‘wow! Great! That’s exciting.’ Haha so onz. Their heads pop out from behind the door only after I heard the voices. Very young girls and yes I am correct, they are all yr 1 students who’s been staying in the flat for only 1 sem. Posters and cuttings from magazines are all over the walls, a small silver Christmas tree and decorations hanging from the ceiling. Magazines strewn over the floor, unwashed plates and bowls are lying on the coffee table. Haha that’s at the first glance. The girls helped me to carry my bags to my room. Nice room. Quite big, compared to pgp’s, not too prison cell-ly. Furniture is in good condition. carpeted floor. Ok good enuff.

Ok then I got to know 3 other pple from another flat, erm shucks really forgot the names. I remembered one of them was Hannah. They are so friendly. come all the way from their flats to say hi. I know those in my flat, laura, rehaina(erm I dunno how to spell but she’s from Pakistan but have been studying in England for 5 yrs be4 she entered the uni and she’s, like me, in the sch of biomed sci), me, jannie from liverpool, sarah from middle something and michelle whom I haven seen till now. Anyway they’re all from all parts of UK.

First thing in mind, got the cables and laptop out. I want to log into the internet! how I wished to get in contact with zq’s sis’s bf, the sg soc president. I need help, want to join the orientation prog though I’ve missed the first part which is the welcome service at the airport. That’s the sole purpose of coming on 25 jan. else I could be like jiafang who’s only arriving in 1 feb. he’s celebrating cny in china. Not to forget contacting all my beloved ones. Oh no! internet cant work. Sigh…no hope.

The others are in the living room watching tv I think, so I knocked on rehaina’s door and asked how to connect to the internet. Arghhh need to register my laptop, get my smart card and username and password. Wahhh how long would all the admin stuff take. Omg! She helped me a great deal, passed me instructions booklet which she used last sem and she dun need them anymore, and suggested for me to look for jane calvert, my exchange coordinator, and she happened to know her as she’s the head in the fac of biomed sci. she offered to bring me to see jane calvert tmr morning so we fixed the time at 9am when the office should be opened. She needed to buy shoes for her aunt and some groceries back home as there’re no halal food sold near her parents place. She needs to get it in the city centre which is just next to the uni. Her parents, one of them a doc, so working here in Newcastle, stayed in a place 2.5 hrs drive away from the uni. She said that if she’s not returning home, she could have shown me ard the place. Of cos I told her no worries as there’ll be plenty of chances. Haha. In actual fact, after the day’s happenings, I really feel like gg back sg. Sigh I know it’s very mei zhi qi but I’m really home sick le. Well..i remembered the song in this blog…never surrender. No matter wat happens. Since I’m alr here, I might as well make the best out of it. This was the usual advice I gave pple too.
I thanked rehaina sincerely. so paiseh to trouble her.

I tried to unpack. Nah…so sianz… too lazy. I played the mp3s, lay my bedsheet, took out the soft toy, charged my phone and arghhh no pillow and blanket which I thot there will be. Luckily I grabbed my slping bag last min. I used that as a pillow. I wore my coat to slp cos it’s quite cold, cant figure out how the heater is regulated. Yes it’s only 7 plus pm but it’s 3 plus am in sg. Obviously I was super tired. But I didn’t rub my eyes leh!
